No one knows
How many shows
I booked
Hoping when I looked
Out at the crowd
I’d find you in the sound
Waiting like you never left
Your eyes still kept
Glowing with the illumination of desire
As their earthy tones try to inspire
Me to fill my mind with dreams of home
Instead of many lives spent windblown
However, it’s a foolish fantasy
This mimicry of Jay Gatsby
Reaching my arms out to your shore
Where even the green light shines no more
And yet, still, here I’ll be
The silhouette of a man thrashing in the sea
To be borne back into the memory
Of your currents, again, beating back against me.
