human heat; Couple drawing, Death Oenone illustration

Human Heat

There is

no reason why

you and I

happen to collide

other than

that there is

limited space

we both occupy.

It’s not

a magnetic pull

or even Love

working its will.

It’s just that

your warmth is

as comforting as

raindrops on a windowsill.

I don’t love you;

You don’t love me.

We just cover each other up

in human heat,

your arms becoming

the blankets within which

I hide

from all my grief.
